Magsaysay Training Center and UI-PHINMA Forge Maritime Education and Training Partnership
The University of Iloilo-PHINMA's (UI-PHINMA)corporate alliances have become even bigger by joining forces for the next five years with Magsaysay Training Center (MTC), the country’s pioneer in the professional development of maritime officers and is a member of the Magsaysay Group of Companies, during a MoA-signing ceremony last November 26, 2012. UI-PHINMA, one of the four schools acquired by the PHINMA Education Network (PEN) nationwide, under the PHINMA Group of Companies, makes its top priority to improve the lives of the Filipino people through education, especially to the marginalized community who need it the most.
"We have embarked upon this partnership because we at PEN need to make sure that once our students graduate, they are able to secure employment. The goal of quality education is realized only if at the end of the day, our students are gainfully employed so that they can really contribute to the betterment of their families and the country," said Dr. Chito Salazar, PEN and UI-PHINMA President.
UI-PHINMA and MTC’s partnership allows the Maritime Transportation and Marine Engineering students of UI-PHINMA to get state-of-the-art access to MTC’s facilities with the installation of a 3D marine deck and engine simulator equipment, as well as MTC’s own trained faculty to give them real-world experience in this industry - the first to be established in Iloilo City.
Signatories of the partnership are President of PHINMA, Inc. and Chairman of UI-PHINMA, Mr. Ramon R. Del Rosario, Jr.; President of the PHINMA Education Network, Dr. Chito B. Salazar; President and CEO of A.Magsaysay, Inc., Ms. Doris M. Ho, and President of the Magsaysay People Resources, Mr. Marlon R. Roño; along with Ms. Jeanette B. Fabul, COO of UI-PHINMA and EVP of PEN; and Mr. Romeo S. Piccio, VP and Head of Operations for the Magsaysay Training Center.
"MTC is pleased to have opened its first training center in Iloilo city in partnership with the University of Iloilo–PHINMA," says CE Piccio, VP of Magsaysay Learning and operations head of MTC. "Through this, Magsaysay aims to cement its position as the biggest in the manning industry of the country as well as its dominance in seafarers training and development."
Magsaysay has over 40 companies under its belt. Of the more than one million seafarers in the world, 30% are Filipinos, and 15% of them are employed by Magsaysay. It currently has ten satellite offices around the world and with 4 training centers nationwide. A local office will be established at the UI-PHINMA campus to provide a one-stop-shop for the maritime training, competency assessments and processing of training documents and the like for their new hires and existing people in the region
As PEN strives to provide affordable, quality education and MTC holds the motto, "Competence Beyond Compliance", both parties agree that they do share a common truth in their values - providing a better life and career for the Filipino people.
