This course provides practical and theoretical Training for Deck Officers at operational level whose specific duties and responsibilities are related to handling of cargo operations and use of cargo equipment on tankers. The training consist of series of exercises perform on a full mission Crude Oil Tanker Cargo Handling Simulator.

Trainees who successfully complete this course will gain experience in cargo handling operation which will develop their skills and knowledge necessary for safer and efficient cargo handling operation. Thus, trainees in particular will gain:

• familiarization with the use of instrumentation and controls extensively used in cargo control room of crude oil tanker
• greater awareness of the need for proper pre-planning and use of checklists and the time scales involved in the various cargo-handling operations
• an enhanced awareness to apply proper and safe procedures at all times when carrying out the various operations onboard an oil tanker
• improvement in their abilities to operate the pumps, valves, and other equipment in oil tanker
• improvement in their abilities to practice good communication, follow procedures during cargo operation
• improvement in their abilities to make decisions and designate work assignments, which promote safety and efficiency during cargo operations leading to protect the property & the environment as well.
