The course provides training in the role of the Safety Officer. Methods of risk assessment, incident investigation and reporting are covered. This course demonstrates how important safety onboard is, and how it will change the way we work.
It also provides training regarding the investigation of marine accidents and incidents and their administration. The organization and conduct of preliminary enquiries and formal investigations or hearings are explained as well as the follow-up action to be taken regarding the findings and recommendations of an investigation. Group activities involving case studies and role playing so as to develop investigative and analytical skills are to be conducted.
Ensuring the safety of the ship and the personnel on board the vessel is the main objective of the course.
Upon completion of the module, the participants shall be able to:
comply with the OCIMF requirements (SIRE Chapter 5.1)
identify and report deficiencies
enable raise awareness in order to prevent accidents
explain the duties of Safety Officer according to Company's SMS
raise awareness in order to prevent accidents
designate a Safety Officer according to Company's SMS
