Instruction for Keeping the Oil Record Books Onboard the Ships (MEPC/Circ.111)
The program is intended to increase awareness on the importance of shipboard waste management and marine pollution prevention. This aims to minimize violations in the marine pollution regulations by understanding how shipboard wastes should be managed, the operational principles of the associated waste handling equipment and the appropriate documentation procedures that apply.
On completion of the program, the participants should be able to:
  • Explain the policies and regulations concerning the prevention of pollution by oil, sewage and garbage
  • Understand the different international environmental policies and regulations enforced in various ports, with particular reference to US ports/waters
  • Explain the laws and principles concerning the properties of waste generated onboard
  • Understand the flow and the corresponding waste treatment of shipboard wastes
  • Understand the treatment and proper disposal of waste in conformation to the applicable regulations
  • Understand the principle of operation of various waste-handling equipment
  • Know how to keep a record of waste discharge operation
